and the fun continues

so the other day just before we were to head back into the capital our friend was visiting. she was in the kitchen when we heard a crashing noise and the sound of rushing water. our friend began yelling our names and when we got to the kitchen we saw that the faucet had completely broken off and water was gushing like a geyser directly at our friend and filling the floor of our kitchen. it wasn't long before we got our guard to shut off the water, but already the water had bled from the kitchen, covered half of our living room area, and around the corner into my own room. It was a mess... water everywhere. But we could hardly stop laughing the whole time we were sopping up the water because of how it surprised/scared our friend when it happened...

and then the next day (on the way to the capital) we were bouncing along our bush road and enjoying the ride, when the usually-bad roads became much worse (after the rains from the previous day) and we managaed to lodge our 4X4 truck in some serious mud and couldn't get back out. we quickly had gathered a small band of boys (and one really old lady) who all helped try to dig our tires out of the slippery muck, but it was no use. eventually a mango truck came along and had a rope to pull us out. after it snapped with the first try, we were gratefully pulled free and to safety on the other side of the rather large mud-swamp. and after paying our friendly little helpers with a mango and some Sprites we happened to have in the car with us with were on our way...
just another day in West Africa.
